WHY WAY AHEAD
There comes a point when
you stop asking,
“What should I do next?”
And start asking,
“What can we make happen?”
Way Ahead grew out of more than 30 years of building things, bringing people together, chasing ideas, solving problems, taking chances, changing direction, and learning—often the hard way—that progress rarely comes from having everything figured out.
It comes from being willing to move.
Together. Into action. Forward.
And that is why Way Ahead exists.

WHAT
DRIVES US.

OUR MISSION
OUR VISION
We roll up our sleeves alongside people and organizations to tackle challenges, create opportunities, and turn bold ideas into meaningful action. We bring the curiosity to ask what if, the courage to ask why not, and the commitment to figure out how—together.
Where people have the courage to challenge, the freedom to create, and the support to make meaningful things happen. Where progress isn’t measured by how much we talk about changing things, but by what we actually change.
THE TEAM
Less Org Chart.
More Getting it Done.
Way Ahead's core team is intentionally lean.

As Director of Operations, Henry helps keep Way Ahead's people, projects, and day-to-day operations on track, turning plans into progress and making sure the important details don't get lost along the way.

NEXT VERY GOOD HUMAN
HI. I’M RUSTY.
Founder & Chief Executive Officer

I’m at my best when something great needs to happen.
Especially when it isn’t completely clear yet how it’s going to happen.
Maybe there’s an idea that needs shape. A room that needs direction. A project with too many moving pieces. Or an opportunity ambitious enough that the usual playbook isn’t going to cut it.
That’s familiar territory for me. I’ve spent my career moving things from possibility to reality—bringing people together, figuring out what matters, building the plan, assembling the pieces, solving problems, and staying with the work until something actually happens.
Sometimes I’m leading from the front. Sometimes I’m facilitating the room. Sometimes I’m building behind the scenes. And sometimes I’m the person saying, “Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do.”

I care about the work.
Deeply.
I care whether the idea is good. Whether people feel heard. Whether the plan can actually work. Whether the details are right. Whether we deliver what we promised. And whether what we create still matters after the meeting ends, the doors close, or the launch is over.
If I’m part of the work, I’m in the work.
That means thinking strategically and getting practical. Asking hard questions and carrying boxes. Working with the board and talking to the vendor. Seeing around corners when I can, adapting quickly when I can’t, and doing what the moment requires without losing sight of why we’re doing it.
I get things done.

I didn't learn that from following a playbook.
I learned from doing the work.
I’ve led organizations, built programs and businesses, created partnerships, launched ventures, produced events, developed places, managed teams, opened new markets, navigated change, fixed things that weren’t working, and helped ideas become something people could actually see, use, join, visit, support, or believe in.
The work has taken me across the country and around the world—and into rooms with executives, entrepreneurs, boards, nonprofits, community leaders, creatives, builders, vendors, volunteers, young people, and people with a damn good idea who needed help moving it forward.
Different places. Different people. Different problems.
The lesson keeps coming back: Listen well. Figure out what matters. Bring good people together. Make decisions.
Do the work. Adapt. Keep going.
That’s what I bring to Way Ahead—and what Way Ahead brings to work that matters.

WE BELIEVE
Great things don’t happen alone.
Way Ahead is built on a simple belief:
The right people.
A willingness to act.
Momentum toward what’s next.
THE CREW
Sometimes you call in the Crew.

Way Ahead has a core team. The Crew is something different. It’s a trusted network of remarkable people I’ve met, worked with, learned from, and admired over more than three decades—people with different talents, perspectives, expertise, connections, and ways of getting things done.
They aren’t permanent Way Ahead staff. They’re people I can bring into the mix when the work calls for what they do best.
ADVISE.
CHALLENGE.
Strategic guidance when another perspective can move the work.
Fresh thinking that pushes the idea further.
CONNECT.
DELIVER.
The right person, expertise, or opportunity at the right moment.
Jump in and help make the work happen.
DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
DIFFERENT STRENGTHS.
RIGHT WHEN THEY’RE NEEDED.
THE CREW IS FORMING.
MORE VERY GOOD HUMANS AHEAD.
Maybe we just haven’t met yet.
Want to join the Crew?
YOUR TURN.
Enough about us.
Let's make it happen.

Maybe it’s an idea that needs shape.
A project that’s stuck.
A room that needs the right people in it.
An event with too many moving pieces.
Or something ambitious that doesn’t have a playbook yet.
You don’t need a finished plan.
You don’t need all the answers.
